Biography

Steve, the , has a background in environmental planning, tourism and sustainable travel.

His current portfolio is centred on project management and development, consultancy and academic research. With a track record of securing project grants, the development of tourism and outdoor recreation projects through funding streams such as Interreg, Horizon Europe and ERASMUS+, as well as through the UK research councils, is a central part of his duties.

One of Steve’s principal current roles is the lead partnership of the trans-national project, financed through the ERASMUS+ programme.

The project, with partners in Germany, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Spain and Ireland, aim to develop training material that will enable tourism businesses to more successfully navigate their way through crisis.

He is centrally involved in two more of the centre's current projects, co-financed by the Northern Periphery and Arctic programme region: , exploring digital solutions to promote the creative industry sector, and SCITOUR, centred on the development of a scientific tourism brand and platform, under the brand name , to promote new tourism products.

Steve has been involved in the development of the Slow Adventure® marketing concept since 2014. Having developed the ‘Slow Adventure in Northern Territories’ Interreg project, he remains an advisor to and passionate supporter of Slow Adventure Ltd

Steve has written extensively on the concept of slow adventure, and has other research interest in nature-based tourism, mountain biking and heritage tourism.
