91ÊÓƵÍø Moray apprentices take home national awards

91ÊÓƵÍø Moray’s award-winning construction department is delighted to announce a further series of competition wins by current apprentices.

The apprentices from 91ÊÓƵÍø Moray’s Linkwood Technology Centre campus took part in two competitions at the beginning of June; the Apprentice of the Year North Heat on the 4 June and the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year on 7 June.

The SECTT competition took place at North East Scotland College and comprised of practical electrical installation exercises where wiring systems were marked for measurement, fabrication, termination and function against a strict criteria. This was then followed up with a theory assessment covering health and safety, wiring regulations, installation standards and electrical science.

  • Jamie Green, a Stage 2 apprentice employed by Campbell and McHardy, was placed 1st in the heat. He will now attend the final heat in October against the winners from the South West and the South East competitions to decide on the overall Scottish Gold, Silver or Bronze winners.
  • Commiserations went to Brodie Mitchell, Stage 1 apprentice employed by Grants (Dufftown) Ltd who was congratulated on completing the exercises to a very good standard within the time constraints but unfortunately was not placed.

The SNIPEF competition took place at South Lanarkshire College covering the copper, lead and renewables categories.

  • Shaun Wilcox, a 2nd year apprentice employed by Moray Council, was awarded first place in copper earning him the gold medal.
  • Liam Marshall, a 2nd year apprentice employed by McDonald & Munro, was placed second in the sheet lead competition earning him the silver medal.
  • Shay Ewing, a 2nd year apprentice employed by Andrew Barclay, was placed second in the copper competition earning him the silver medal.

Both Shaun and Shay will now have the opportunity to take part in the UK finals which will be held in Manchester in November of this year.
